Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Building Engineer to support the maintenance, operation, and optimization of corporate facilities and building systems in Pleasanton, CA. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on problem solver who takes pride in keeping facilities safe, efficient, compliant, and fully operational.

The Building Engineer will work under the direction of senior facilities leadership and provide hands-on support for preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, inspections, and specialized building systems. The role will also provide leadership and direction to maintenance technicians, skilled trades personnel, and technical contractors.

This position is initially offered as a 4-month contract with the potential for permanent conversion based on business needs and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support maintenance activities across corporate facilities and building systems.
  • Perform and oversee preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and emergency repairs.
  • Maintain and optimize mechanical and electrical building systems.
  • Support and troubleshoot Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • Work with chiller plants, air handling units, HVAC systems, refrigeration, and ventilation equipment.
  • Support plumbing systems, oil/water separators, fuel delivery systems, fire alarm systems, and fire suppression systems.
  • Ensure facility systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Supervise and coordinate maintenance technicians, skilled trades personnel, and technical contractors.
  • Develop and review statements of work, construction documents, cost estimates, and maintenance plans.
  • Utilize CMMS systems to document preventive maintenance, repairs, work orders, and equipment history.
  • Read and interpret electrical, plumbing, mechanical, architectural, and engineering drawings.
  • Identify facility issues and potential hazards, recommend solutions, and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Respond to facility emergencies and provide support outside normal working hours when required.
  • Communicate effectively with internal customers, contractors, vendors, and facility stakeholders.
  • Promote safe work practices, energy efficiency, and compliance with applicable building and safety codes.
  • Operate company vehicles as required for business-related activities.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED plus trade school or specialized vocational training from an accredited institution, or equivalent combination of education and 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Building Engineer, Building Engineer Supervisor, Lead Technician, or similar role.
  • Experience in commercial buildings, corporate campuses, hospitals, manufacturing facilities, office buildings, universities, or other large-scale facilities.
  • Previous supervisory or lead experience is required.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial or industrial HVAC/mechanical systems, plumbing, electrical systems, heating, refrigeration, and ventilation.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance and repair programs managed through a CMMS.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, plumbing, and mechanical drawings, riser diagrams, piping schematics, equipment schedules, and as-built drawings.
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes, electrical codes, and construction standards.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Prior CMMS experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required. A DMV check will be included as part of the background screening, as the role requires driving company vehicles.
  • Must be willing to work overtime and occasional Saturdays with advance notice.
  • Must be flexible to respond to emergency calls or urgent facility needs when required.
  • Must be able to work in a physically demanding environment, including standing, walking, stooping, climbing stairs/ladders, and lifting or carrying 50+ pounds.
